Freiburg im Breisgau: Tour to Strasbourg

Begin your adventure with a comfortable drive from Freiburg to Strasbourg, crossing the scenic Rhine River that marks the border between Germany and France. Our first stop is the Grande Île, Strasbourg’s historic center and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, you’ll embark on a walking tour that takes you through the narrow, winding streets lined with half-timbered houses, charming shops, and inviting cafes. The highlight of the Grande Île is the magnificent Strasbourg Cathedral, an awe-inspiring example of Gothic architecture. Marvel at its towering spires, intricate façade, and stunning stained-glass windows. Don’t miss the opportunity to climb to the top for panoramic views of the city.

Next, we’ll visit La Petite France, the most picturesque quarter of Strasbourg. This area, once home to tanners, millers, and fishermen, is now famous for its well-preserved medieval buildings, quaint canals, and delightful flower-adorned houses. You will have some free time to visit the museums of your choice or to continue exploring the charming streets and shops of Strasbourg.

For lunch, you can enjoy Alsatian specialties at one of the local bistros or brasseries. Try the famous tarte flambée (flammekueche), choucroute garnie (sauerkraut with sausages and meats), or a slice of delicious kougelhopf cake.

In the afternoon, we will take a relaxing boat cruise along the Ill River, offering a different perspective of Strasbourg’s stunning architecture and picturesque scenery. The cruise will take you past notable landmarks such as the European Parliament, the Council of Europe, and the European Court of Human Rights.

As the day draws to a close, we will make our way back to Freiburg, reflecting on the beautiful sights and cultural experiences of the day.
