Transylvania wine tour – 5 Days Tour
Uncover the lesser-known yet enchanting wine culture of Transylvania on a five-day tour that combines premium tastings with history, culture, and dramatic landscapes. From the sun-soaked hills of Jidvei and Lechința to the medieval streets of Sighișoara and Sibiu, this journey takes you to the heart of Romania’s wine heritage.
Transylvania’s wine regions remain a hidden gem in European viticulture, defined by long golden autumns, terraced vineyards, and a winemaking tradition that stretches back centuries. On this five-day cultural and wine-focused journey, you’ll explore five of Transylvania’s most important vineyards—Sebeș-Apold, Alba Iulia, Aiud, Târnave, and Lechința—each with unique microclimates and native grape varieties such as Fetească Regală, Fetească Albă, and Traminer Rose.
Your adventure begins in Sibiu, a former European Capital of Culture, with its charming squares, pastel houses, and fortified churches. From here, you’ll journey to the iconic Jidvei winery, one of Romania’s leading wine producers nestled in the Târnave hills. Enjoy tastings and explore a rare castle cellar that reflects the region’s noble winemaking heritage. The route continues to Alba Iulia, where you’ll stroll through one of the best-preserved Vauban citadels in Europe.
The second day brings a contrast in scenery and experience, with a descent into the breathtaking Turda Salt Mine, followed by a scenic drive through the Aiud wine region, leading to the storybook town of Sighișoara, a UNESCO-listed medieval citadel. Day three is dedicated to both wine and culture, with a visit to the rolling hills dubbed the “Tuscany of Transylvania”, followed by stops in Sighișoara and Târgu Mureș, a city known for its eclectic Secessionist architecture and laid-back charm.
On the final two days, you’ll explore the Lechința wine region, one of the oldest in Transylvania and famous for its crisp whites. You’ll meet local producers, learn about traditional and modern techniques, and sample rare vintages while enjoying the tranquil rural surroundings. The tour concludes in Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania’s cultural and economic hub, where past and present blend effortlessly.
Throughout the journey, you’ll stay in boutique 4-star hotels and a historic Transylvanian castle, adding a touch of luxury and authenticity. This wine tour is ideal not only for wine enthusiasts but for those who enjoy combining flavors with culture, history, and natural beauty.
