Brasov: Wild Bear Watching Tour

This tour is recommended from May to September when most of the wild Carpathian brown bears (Ursus arctos) are active. You’ll have the opportunity to witness these majestic creatures in their natural environment, deep within Romania’s pristine forests, all from the safety of observatories.

As wild animals, there is a possibility that you may need to be patient and observe the bears for some time, but from our experience, the chance of seeing them up-close is almost guaranteed.

The half-day tour typically begins at 5 PM, although the departure time may vary. We will arrange a convenient pick-up point in Brasov and depart for the designated areas of the trip.

Once you depart, you’ll travel to specific destinations where you will meet local guides (rangers) who will accompany you further into the forest. Depending on the location, you may be transferred to off-road vehicles to venture deeper into the wild. The final part of the journey will require you to proceed on foot, maintaining silence.

From the observatory, you can quietly observe the wild bears as they emerge from the forest into the clearing below. During your experience, you will receive valuable information about bears and their behavior.

For safety reasons, you will leave the observatory during daylight hours and walk back to your transfer vehicle. You will then be dropped off in Brasov city center or any other nearby location.

• Please wear comfortable hiking shoes suitable for walking in the forest.
• Dress in dark-colored clothing to blend in with the natural surroundings.
• Avoid bright clothing, as you will be in close proximity to wildlife.
• Bring drinking water, but do not bring food, as the scent can attract wild bears.
• Set your phone to mute and turn off the flash for your camera.
• Have an umbrella or raincoat on hand in case of rain.
• Refrain from using perfume to avoid attracting wildlife.
