Your experience begins at the large parking area above Praia da Galé (West), where your friendly and professional guide will welcome you, equip you with a helmet, explain how to use the Segway safely, and provide a brief practice session. Once you feel comfortable, the adventure really starts. You ride along newly built wooden boardwalks and cycle paths that wind across the marshland of the Salgados Nature Reserve — a landscape of salt lagoons, reedbeds, and verdant greenery that feels a world away from the busy Algarve coast.

As you glide, your guide shares stories about the ecological importance of the reserve, pointing out unique flora and teaching you about the wetlands’ role as a breeding ground for a rich variety of bird species. Thanks to its status as an IBA (Important Bird Area), Salgados regularly hosts over 5,000 waterfowl, including species like Purple Heron, Clapper Rails, and even the rare Ferruginous Duck.

The trail also offers incredible coastal views: from the boardwalks you can look out toward Praia da Galé West, Praia da Galé East, and even Armação de Pêra in the distance. With the Atlantic just a minute away at some points, you’ll feel the sea breeze on your face as you ride.

During the tour, you may also spot local wildlife — not just birds, but sometimes small mammals or the occasional insect species. On certain occasions, if the season is right, you might even taste wild figs, almonds, and carob from trees growing nearby.

The ride is paced for both beginners and more confident riders. After about 1.5 hours of exploration, you return to the starting point, having experienced a peaceful, natural side of the Algarve very few tourists see.
