Bilbao: Pintxos Elaboration Workshop

Uncover the secrets of one of the Basque Country’s most beloved culinary traditions—pintxos—through a hands-on cooking workshop in Bilbao. Guided by a local chef, you’ll learn how to prepare and present these iconic small bites that fuse creativity, flavor, and local heritage. This fun and educational class invites you to taste, cook, and enjoy pintxos like a true bilbaíno.

Step into the heart of Basque culinary culture with a workshop dedicated entirely to the art of pintxos—small, flavor-packed bites that are a staple of northern Spain’s vibrant food scene. Taking place in a professional kitchen or a cozy cooking studio in central Bilbao, this interactive experience is perfect for food lovers, aspiring chefs, or anyone curious about Spain’s tapas-style traditions with a Basque twist.

Your experience begins with a warm welcome and an introduction to the world of pintxos, including their cultural roots in the Basque Country and the difference between pintxos and tapas. A local chef will lead you through the preparation of 4 to 6 classic and creative pintxos using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients such as Idiazabal cheese, cod, Iberian ham, piquillo peppers, and anchovies from the Cantabrian Sea.

You’ll learn culinary techniques such as marinating, assembling, and plating—key to the visual appeal of pintxos, which are often described as “edible art.” The chef will share insider tips on balancing flavors and textures, as well as wine or cider pairing suggestions. Whether it’s a Gilda skewer, a txaka-stuffed pepper, or a gourmet creation with modern flair, each dish you prepare becomes part of your own pintxos tasting table.

After the hands-on part, sit down and enjoy the fruits of your labor in good company, accompanied by a glass of txakoli or Rioja wine. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave not only with a full stomach, but also with recipes and knowledge to recreate pintxos at home—a delicious souvenir of your time in Bilbao.
