Rijeka: Rafting/Kayaking on Kupa River
Break away from the Adriatic and explore the wild Kupa River on an exhilarating rafting and kayaking adventure — one of the most exciting outdoor experiences near Rijeka. Navigate flowing rapids, paddle through pristine natural scenery, and enjoy a thrilling river journey suitable for beginners and families alike.
Set in the upper Kupa River — a turquoise-colored waterway springing from the heart of the Gorski Kotar highlands — this action-packed tour takes you down a scenic 7–10 km section of river famed for its rapids, clean water and wooded canyon landscapes.
After meeting at the river base, you’ll begin with a safety briefing and equipment fitting, including life jackets, helmets, and neoprene gear if needed. No prior experience is required, and participants from about 6 years old can join when accompanied by an adult.
Depending on the water level, your adventure may take place in a 6–8 person raft with a guide, or in stable 2–3 person kayaks when the flow is lower. Guided by trained professionals, you’ll paddle and float through a variety of river conditions, passing multiple rapids (15–300 m long) that deliver excitement without compromising safety.
Along the way, stop where conditions allow for swimming, cliff jumping and photo opportunities amidst the river’s dramatic scenery. A photographer often accompanies the group to capture action shots that can be emailed to you after the trip. After 2–3 hours of river fun, you’ll reach the finish, change into dry clothes, and be driven back to the base camp — tired, exhilarated and full of river stories.
