The evening begins indoors in a cozy, warm setting where your expert guide introduces you to the world of the auroras. During this interactive workshop, you’ll learn how the lights are formed, what influences their activity, how to read real-time forecasts, and the legends that surround them in Sami and Nordic traditions. The guide will also share essential tips on photographing the auroras, including recommended camera settings and techniques for both smartphones and DSLRs.

Once prepared, you’ll head out into the wild landscapes of Saariselkä, far from any light pollution. Your guide, using up-to-date aurora forecasts and weather maps, will choose the best viewing spot for that evening—be it a frozen lake, snowy clearing, or hilltop with open skies. As you wait for the lights to appear, you’ll enjoy the pristine silence of the Arctic night under a star-studded sky. A warming campfire will be set up, and you’ll be offered hot drinks and snacks to keep you cozy.

If the auroras emerge, you’ll have the chance to put your new knowledge into practice—watching the sky transform in waves of green, purple, and white, and taking your own photos with expert help at hand. Even if the aurora doesn’t show, the combination of learning, campfire hospitality, and a night in the heart of Lapland will make this an experience to treasure.
