Gothenburg: Winter Paddle Board Tour
Discover the Swedish archipelago in its quietest and most atmospheric season on a winter stand-up paddleboard tour. With crisp air, calm waters, and almost no boat traffic, this experience offers a fresh and peaceful way to explore the coast.
When summer visitors leave and the islands settle into silence, the archipelago reveals a completely different character. This winter paddle board tour invites you to experience the coast from a calm, close-to-the-water perspective, surrounded by open horizons, granite shores, and the soft light of the colder months. The absence of crowds and busy boat traffic creates ideal conditions for a slow and immersive journey through nature.
The tour begins at the paddle center in Grönemad, near Grebbestad, where you’ll receive a short introduction and be equipped with a dry suit and proper winter paddling gear. Designed for guests with some previous SUP experience, this activity focuses on safety, balance, and confidence while paddling in cooler conditions. Once on the water, you’ll glide along the coastline at a relaxed pace, allowing time to observe details often missed during summer.
Autumn and winter bring unique wildlife encounters. You may spot lobster fishing activity, eider ducks, and other winter birds gathering near the shore. As winter slowly transitions into spring, migratory birds return, including the Eurasian oystercatcher, a well-known sign that brighter days are approaching. Guided by experienced locals, this tour combines tranquility, nature, and adventure into a short yet memorable winter experience.
