Winter transforms the archipelago into a serene and almost untouched landscape, revealing a completely different side of the coast. With fewer boats on the water and the islands resting quietly, kayaking during this season allows for a deeper connection with nature and an intimacy that summer cannot offer. Gliding across still waters, you’ll discover rocky islets, narrow passages, and open seascapes framed by soft winter light.

Led by experienced local guides, this tour focuses on safety, comfort, and immersion. You’ll be equipped with a high-quality dry suit, making it possible to kayak securely even during the colder months. As you paddle through the archipelago, you may spot lobster fishing activity in autumn, eider ducks and other winter birds close to shore, or, as winter turns to spring, migratory birds returning to the coast. The Eurasian oystercatcher, a well-known symbol of spring, is often among the first to appear.

After about an hour of paddling, you’ll land on a quiet island for a short walk, giving you time to stretch, explore, and take in the raw beauty of the surroundings. Here, you’ll enjoy a warm drink and a traditional Swedish fika, creating a cozy contrast to the cool air. This experience is ideal for paddlers with some previous kayaking experience who want to explore the archipelago from a new seasonal perspective.

1. Meet your guide at the kayak center in Grönemad, Grebbestad.

2. Safety briefing and equipment fitting, including dry suits.

3. Launch kayaks and begin paddling through the winter archipelago.

5. Stop on a suitable island for a short walk and warm fika break.

6. Paddle back to the starting point and conclude the tour.
