Sarajevo: Sutjeska National Park Day Tour

Embark on a captivating journey through nature’s masterpiece with our Sarajevo: Exploring Sutjeska National Park Day Tour. Delight in the pristine landscapes, historical significance, and adrenaline-pumping adventures that await in this majestic national park.

Our adventure begins with a departure from Sarajevo, setting course for Sutjeska National Park. As we traverse the picturesque Bosnian countryside, you’ll witness the changing vistas, from gentle valleys to rugged mountainscapes. The two-hour drive (110 kilometers) unveils the grandeur of Bosnia’s largest and most diverse national park.

Sutjeska National Park holds historical significance as the site of the Battle of Sutjeska during World War II. From 15 May to 16 June 1943, the Partisans, led by Marshal Josip Broz Tito, bravely fought against German occupying forces. Despite the challenges, the Partisans emerged victorious, foiling enemy plans and commemorated by monumental stone memorials at Tjentište within the park.

Our exploration takes us deep into Perucica, one of Europe’s last remaining primeval forests. Towering beech trees, some exceeding 60 meters, create a canopy of green, while endemic black pines cling to rocky cliffs. Witness the breathtaking Skakavac waterfall, cascading over 75 meters amidst a lush valley. Marvel at nature’s artistry as the Sutjeska River meanders through the park, carving a stunning valley that separates Zelengora, Maglic, and Volujak Mountains.

Ascend Zelengora Mountain, home to eight glacial lakes affectionately known as “mountain eyes”. Immerse yourself in the tranquility of these pristine alpine waters, reflecting the azure sky and surrounding peaks. The rugged beauty of Zelengora’s Green Peaks offers a picturesque backdrop for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike.

After a morning of exploration and adventure, indulge in a delectable traditional lunch amidst nature’s embrace. Savor authentic Bosnian flavors while basking in the serene ambiance of Sutjeska National Park. Relish the tranquility before bidding farewell to this natural paradise and embarking on our return journey to Sarajevo.
